Two people escape unharmed from house fire on West Belfair Dr.

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Baton Rouge Fire Department was called to a house fire on Wednesday morning.

Firefighters arrived at 2181 West Belfair Dr. around 9 a.m. and found “a rear bedroom engulfed in flames.”

Members of the Baton Rouge Fire Department immediately went to work putting the fire out with the help of seven total units, four pumpers and one ladder.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in around 15 minutes.

Fire investigators determined that the cause of the fire was “an unattended candle near combustibles.”

There were two people in the home at the time of the fire but no one was hurt.

BRFD says, “they were able to contain the fire to the bedroom.”

The home sustained $50,000 in damages along with smoke and heat damage.

BRPD and EMS assisted the Baton Rouge Fire Department at the scene.

The Red Cross was asked to provide help to the residents who were displaced due to this fire.
