BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) The process of a child’s Individualized Education Program is not for the cull of the weak, so two programs are hosting virtual seminars starting in Sept. for parents to gain a better understanding of not just the document, but how it really works.
Families Helping Families of Greater New Orleans and the Louisiana Parent Training & Information Center will be hosting a series of virtual seminars called, “Navigating the IEP”.
The seminar is in four parts and will be offered on different days of the week and at various times of day to accommodate parents’ and guardians’ busy schedules.
Part one of the series covers the requirement of notification to parents for an IEP meeting. It also covers the who is who of the process, IEP exceptions and factors to be considered. The first part of the seminar will be on Tuesday, Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Register through the link for part one here.
Part two of “Navigating the IEP” will be on Wednesday, Sept. 8 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. This section will cover the instructional plan, which includes levels of performance, functional goals for the child and accommodations. Register for part two of the seminar here.
The third installment of the series discuses programs and services for the child. It also goes over the Consent section of the IEP. Part three of this series will be on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Parents can register for part three here.
The fourth and final part of “Navigating the IEP” will be on Tuesday, Sept. 21 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The final section will cover the transition sections of the IEP. This section will be co-hosted by Families Helping Families of Southwest LA. Register for the fourth part of the series here.
