Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) President Dr. Gary Jones issued the following statement regarding the submission of the unanimously approved FY 2019-20 Minimum Foundation Program (MFP) formula and resolution which urges increased early childhood education funding:
“Following unanimous adoption, the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) today submitted the Minimum Foundation Program (MFP) formula for the 2019-2020 school year. The formula includes a $1,000 pay raise for public school teachers, a $500 pay raise for public school support staff and a $39 million boost in K-12 public school funding. Along with the MFP formula, BESE submitted a resolution urging the Legislature to implement a recommendation by the Early Childhood Care and Education Commission to provide $86 million to address Louisiana’s early childhood education crisis of access. We look forward to working with the Legislature to meet the needs of all Louisiana students, all educators and all places of learning.”
This is excellent information for educators across the state.
