BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – For Horatio Isadore, launching Southern Cofe in 2017 was more than about just opening a coffee shop.
“It’s an absolute hallmark of when a community pours into a business” Isadore said. “Our customers, our base are just bigger than that. They’ve become that shop, they’ve taken over that shop”.
Now, nearly four years later, he’s expanding in the Capital city, opening the shop’s second location in downtown’s Main Street Market.
“We wanted to increase our footprint. We started in north Baton Rouge which is really where our heart is, we love that we started there and are able to expand past north BR and we just want to bring that same energy and unapologetic passion here” Isadore said.
Southern Cofe offers bold brews, bowls and traditional teas and pastries. Isadore promises the new Main Street location will feature that familiar unapologetically original feel too.
“It was important that we say there’s good business here, there’s disposable dollars here, there’s people that want to spend money in the community if you give them the effort” said Isadore.
Friday, Isadore and community leaders celebrated Southern Cofe’s grand opening; and while it’s not the first or the only coffee shop to make downtown Baton Rouge home, it’s one with a unique grind to success.
“Coming here sets us apart because we have a footprint that people can actually look at and say ‘I know where they started from, that’s a good business, that’s a business that has its purpose driven” Isadore said. “That’s a business that’s going to bring a certain amount of culture… a certain amount to this area that not necessarily these current businesses have” he said.
