-UPDATE- Sorrento Couple Fights to Fix Dangerous Sinkhole

Update on Sorrento Sinkhole_79785639-159532
A Sorrento couple contacted Local 33 with concerns about a growing problem near their property.

A large sinkhole directly behind their back yard is growing and they say it has become extremely dangerous.

Harold and Shirley Osborne have been making calls and telling anyone who will listen, but everyone they have called in the city and parish government haven’t made steps to fix it.

One of the Osborne’s main concerns is that a lot of people, especially children use the path between the houses to get around the neighborhood.

The hole is dangerous by itself, but when you factor in the sharp edges of the sewer access in the hole, they are worried about serious injuries or even death.

Shirley said, “At night if someone is running through or playing or even if a grown person is coming through they could get hurt back there”.

So, Shirley got busy and started making some phone calls, but her crusade to get this problem fixed hasn’t gone well.

She said that she has contacted both the city and parish government along with representatives from the Ascension Water Company.

People have come out and looked at the hole, but nothing has been done and the Osborne’s feel they are running out of options.

Shirley said, “I feel like we are being ignored.  Its been three years now and its going on four, nobody has done anything.  In the mean time if i don’t hear from them soon, I have no other choice but to seek some legal help.  I just don’t want anyone to get hurt back there”.

This hole really is a very dangerous situation.

While showing me the sink hole, the ground under Shirley gave way and she almost feel in.

I couldn’t immediately reach anyone for comment on this story, but the Osborne’s told me that they will keep calling and we will keep following this story for you.

–UPDATE–

The Osborne’s have let Local 33 know that crews have repaired the sight of the sinkhole.

It took crews 3 days to repair the drain and fill in the hole.
