Veteran Hammond police officer “needs our prayers” while fighting COVID-19 at local hospital

HAMMOND, La. (BRPROUD) – Veteran Hammond Police Officer Carlos Hidalgo is “fighting for his life,” according to his wife, Brandi.

Brandi Hidalgo was joined by others including Hammond Police Chief Edwin Bergeron Jr. at a prayer vigil on Sunday night.

Chief Bergeron Jr. described Officer Hidalgo as a family man who served in the military and needs our prayers at this time.

Fr. Mark Beard from St. Helena Catholic Church spoke at the prayer vigil which was held at North Oaks Medical Center.

Officer Carlos Hidalgo was diagnosed with COVID-19 and began to not feel well earlier this month.

Officer Hidalgo is currently receiving care at North Oaks Hospital.

According to the Hammond Police Department, “In the early morning hours of Thursday 1/6/22 Carlos’ oxygen levels dropped and he was placed on the ventilator.”

Hammond PD is requesting prayers from the community for Officer Hidalgo and his family.
