Victim in fatal Gonzales train accident identified

The City of Gonzales announced that “all roads are now open.”

UPDATE: (12:05 p.m.)

Around 8:15 a.m. on Friday, August 24, a garbage truck driven by Willie Hall, 55, of Baker was hit by a train at N. Felix St.

According to the City of Gonzales, “the garbage truck was crossing the train tracks at N. Felix Street when a train approached. Due to reasons still under investigation, the garbage truck was hit, and the driver, Willie Hall, 55 years of age, from Baker, was killed on impact.”

The City of Gonzales Police, City of Gonzales Fire Department and EMS assisted at the scene of the accident.

Authorities said, “N. Felix is still closed at the train tracks, as are Burnside, Cornerview, Ascension and New River. Drivers are advised to use Purpera and Coolidge.”

A garbage truck driver was struck by a train and killed in Gonzales on Friday morning. 

Lt. Steven Nethken of the Gonzales Police Department said, “around 8 a.m. an Innovative Waste Systems truck was crossing near East New River to Felix Street in Gonzales city limits when he failed to yield to a southbound train crossing back over the tracks.”

Authorities said the garbage truck driver was killed as a result of the crash. 

Gonzales PD has identified the deceased individual but will not release that person’s name until the next of kin has been notified. 

Authorities said, “the crossing did not have any crossing arms or flashing lights.”
