BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A man who was parked at a RaceTrac gas station on Siegen Lane was attacked at knifepoint in an attempted robbery early Sunday (August 21) morning, deputies say.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office (EBRSO) reports it was around 6 a.m. when the victim was in his BMW at RaceTrac and a male suspect with a large knife climbed into the car through its passenger window demanding money and beer.

Deputies say the victim explained the RaceTrac hadn’t opened yet, so he couldn’t go inside for beer.

At this point, the suspect allegedly forced the victim to drive across the street to Marathon Gas Station.

Official documents go on to say the victim did as told and upon arriving at Marathon Gas, he ran inside and told the employee he was being robbed.

Once deputies arrived, they were able to detain the suspect and identify him as 44-year-old Sergio Flores.

Deputies say Flores claimed he hadn’t brandished a knife and insisted he and the victim were friends who’d been planning to drive to a place where they could find carpentry work.

According to EBRSO, Flores was found with the knife the victim had described.

Flores was subsequently arrested and brought to East Baton Rouge Parish Prison; his charges include armed robbery and aggravated kidnapping.
