DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (BRPROUD) — The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and Denham Springs Police Department are investigating reports of multiple vehicles being broken into.

Denham Springs homeowner, Jonattan Salcedo, awoke to a motion alert no one ever expects.

“Immediately I actually freaked out and he actually had a gun,” said Salcedo. “It was kind of scary.”

That motion alert on his phone was a video of a person trying to break into his car right outside the kitchen door. What was even more alarming was seeing the person holding a gun.

“My daughter, she was already awake, so she was getting ready to go to school so I was afraid that they would still be around or something,” said Salcedo.

Another video captured by Salcedo’s security cameras shows people breaking into the neighbor’s vehicle.

“It’s the first time that I’d seen something like that happen around here,” he said.

This patch of crimes happened in the area of Hatchell Lane and Jason Drive. According to police, the suspects were in this white Ford Edge that was reported stolen. The suspects then later ditched the car and stole a Toyota Avalon and a white Hyundai Coupe.

Police say the cars broken into were unlocked.

Residents in the area say they are on high alert.

“Just because we’re in a good neighborhood, bad things can happen in a good neighborhood,” said David Johnson, a resident of Denham Springs.

“It’s kind of hard, you know, to know that things like this are happening,” said Salcedo.

Anyone with information on this incident is urged to call the Livingston Sheriff’s Office at 225-686-224.
