BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD)- Local restaurants and grocers partner with Waitr, a Louisiana-base online and mobile food delivery company to feed local families in need this holiday season.
Food donations like nonperishable were picked up from Gov’t Taco, LA Boilers; Walk-on’s Juben; Jasmines On the Bayou; Rotolo’s Pizzeria; Hanna Q (Baton Rouge and Prairieville locations); Ralph’s Market; and Alexander’s Highland Market, according to Waitr.
Popular items donated include; proteins canned tuna, dried or canned beans, soup, peanut butter, grains high-fiber cereal, oatmeal, pasta, rice, canned fruits and vegetables, and bottled water.
Waitr customers also participated in the donations by giving to the Holiday Food Drive when they ordered from their favorite restaurants on the app; a portion of the donations are matched.
Food banks in Louisiana have seen significant increases in production this holiday season, due to the ongoing challenges of the pandemic and rising food prices escalating the problem, the release further stated.
