WALKER, La (BRPROUD) Walker Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Saturday, Aug. 21 within city limits. The checkpoint will go into effect from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

“This DWI checkpoint is being held in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Louisiana Highway Safety Commission ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ Program,” Walker Police Chief David Addison said.

This program will run from Friday, Aug. 20 to Monday, Sept. 6.

“During the program period, and in addition to this announced checkpoint, the Walker Police Department will be conducting enhanced sobriety enforcement activities, including extra patrols to identify and apprehend impaired motorists,” Addison.

The effort to detect impaired motorists is being funded by a grant that was awarded by National Highway Safety Administration and Louisiana Highway Safety Plan. The grant will also fund overtime pay for any officers involved in the program.

“We are pleased to be a grant funded participant in the “Drive Sober or Pulled Over” traffic safety campaign,” Addison said. “We want to do everything possible to prevent any DWI related fatalities or injuries and this important program increases our ability to protect our citizens and the motoring public.”

Walker Police Department wishes for everyone to drive safely and responsibly.
