News conference kicks off Bayou Classic week

NEW ORLEANS, La. (BRPROUD) – We are five days away from the 48th installment of the Bayou Classic.

Southern and Grambling are set to battle in the Caesars Superdome at 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 27.

On Monday, the festivities for “the ‘Granddaddy’ of HBCU college matchups” gets underway at 10 a.m.

A news conference is taking place from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and these dignitaries are scheduled to attend:

  • Lt. Governor of the State of Louisiana – Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser
  • Mayor of the City of New Orleans – Mayor LaToya Cantrell
  • Representatives of the New Orleans City Council
  • Representatives from the State of Louisiana and The City of New Orleans tourism industry
  • President/Chancellor of Southern University and A&M College System – President-Chancellor Dr. Ray L. Belton
  • President of Grambling State University – President Richard J. “Rick” Gallot, Jr.
  • Southern University Interim Head Football Coach Jason Rollins
  • Grambling Interim Head Football Coach Terrence Graves
  • Directors of Athletics, Assistant Coaches and Players from GSU and SU
  • Sponsors of the 48th Annual Bayou Classic
  • Other invited guests

Bayou Classic organizers are providing important information about COVID regulations and the parade route below:


As required by the City of New Orleans, all guests ages 12 and above must provide evidence of 1) having received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine that has received full approval or emergency use authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or the World Health Organization or 2) evidence of a negative COVID-19 PCR or antigen test taken no more than 72 hours prior to entering the following indoor establishment.

Prior to entry, fans may present their verified digital proof of vaccination (LA Wallet or other official government sanctioned app) or an original, digital photograph or photocopy (both sides) of their CDC vaccination card. They may also present an official vaccination record issued by another state, foreign nation or the WHO. In lieu of vaccination verification, fans may also present a negative PCR or antigen test result that has been taken within the last 72 hours.


The Bayou Classic Parade will once again hit the streets of New Orleans the Saturday of Bayou Classic – Saturday, November 27. The parade starts at 9:30 am.

Of note, the parade route has been changed back to its original route.

This year’s Bayou Classic parade will start on Elysian Fields at the river; N Peters Street past the French Market; down N Peters St/Decatur; turn right off N Peters St on Canal; turn left off Canal on St Charles Ave; turn right off St Charles Ave on Poydras Street; turn right off Poydras on Loyola; parade disembarks at Duncan Plaza on Loyola
