A weekend fire at a Baton Rouge area 4-plex left eight adults and nine children displaced, and a teenage girl suffered a minor burn as she tried to escape the building.
The St. George and Baton Rouge fire departments controlled the fire in less than an hour, but the fire extensively damaged one unit and left five others with minor damage, according to Eldon Ledoux of the St. George Fire Department.
All 18 people who escaped did so unharmed, except for the teenage girl, who had a small burn on her toe. She received treatment on the scene and did not require further medical treatment, according to Ledoux.
The Red Cross sent a team to assist the displaced.
