BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Can a person ever have too much cheese?

Well, yes. Some experts say that while cheese makes for a great source of protein and calcium, too much of certain cheeses can lead to constipation, weight gain, and even an increased risk of heart disease.

So, consuming an overabundance of cheese may not be the best idea.

That said, there are occasions when nothing hits the spot better than a deliciously cheesy meal, and the double cheeseburger is one of the most beloved options in the U.S.

Studies indicate that Americans love burgers in general.

Americans eat about 60 burgers annually

In fact, research reveals that burgers are the preferred menu item for one in five Americans and that the average American eats about 60 burgers every year.

On that note, a study featured in Science Daily claims that, “everyone eats three extra cheeseburgers a day than they admit.”

So, it’s no surprise the U.S. has devoted an entire day to the celebration of the beloved double cheeseburger.

According to National Today, September 15 is marked as National Double Cheeseburger Day, which encourages celebrants to either make a double cheeseburger, buy some of the burgers and invite friends over, or treat a person without a home to a meal that includes a double cheeseburger.
