BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – People in the U.S. consume quite a few tacos.
According to one survey, nearly half of the Americans surveyed said they eat between four and 12 tacos each month.
Another five percent of individuals surveyed admitted to enjoying 64 or more tacos every month.
Such statistics indicate many Americans will make good use of discounts and freebies offered on National Taco Day.
The beloved Mexican dish is celebrated Tuesday, October 4 and some eateries in Baton Rouge are offering steep discounts in honor of National Taco Day.
Before visiting any of the restaurants listed below, you may want to call first to ensure the discount is still valid.
Jack in the Box
Jack In The Box’s Monster Tacos are making a temporary return in honor of National Taco Day. The offer includes two monster-sized tacos for only $3, and will available all October long. If you’re a fan, make sure to take advantage of the deal before it ends on October 31.
As a nod to National Taco Day, the Taco Lover’s Pass is once again in effect for limited-time. Foodies need to download the Taco Bell app to make use of this deal. Rewards members will be able to redeem one of seven tacos a day for 30 consecutive days for $10.
Moe’s Southwest Grill
Moe’s has a special offer for its Rewards members. Fans can get $5 off any meal kit on National Taco Day, including the restaurant’s Taco Meal Kit with free chips and salsa.
Taco kits include 12 soft flour tortillas, two proteins, lettuce, cheese, pico de gallo, beans, rice, sour cream, and a shareable bowl of Moe’s queso.
Government Taco is offering 10% off all tacos all day long (dine-in only), as well as $2 off all margaritas, a Great Raft Beer tent, music by the East Baton Rouge Parish Library Book Mobile, and more!
Those who’d rather create their own tacos at home may want to try their hand at a vegan, Lentil Taco recipe featured on the Today Show. The recipe is below.
Ingredients for Mango Guac
- 2 ripe avocados, cubed
- 1½ cups cubed ripe mango
- 1/4 cup diced red onion
- 1/2 cup chopped cilantro
- 2 limes, juiced
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
Ingredients for Tacos
- 2 tablespoons grapeseed or coconut oil, for sautéing
- 2 Roma tomatoes, diced
- 2 cups cooked lentils
- 4-6 cups torn kale leaves or baby kale
- 2 teaspoons cumin
- 2 teaspoons chile powder
- 1 teaspoon sea salt, plus more to taste
- 8-12 small tortillas, warmed
FOR THE MANGO GUACAMOLE:
Place the guacamole ingredients in a mortar and mash until your desired texture is reached and set it aside.
FOR THE TACOS:
1. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
2.Add the tomatoes and cook until they’ve lost their shape.
3.Stir in the lentils and kale. Cook until kale is tender, about 5 minutes.
4.Stir in the seasonings, and season with more sea salt, to taste.
5.Fill each tortilla with the lentil filling, then top with mango guacamole.
