BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Baton Rouge woman was arrested after reportedly starting a fire Monday afternoon.

According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department, fire investigators responded to a trash fire in front of a property in the 3600 block of Geronimo Street.

During the investigation, detectives learned that the property tenant had guests. One of the guests who was present at the time told detectives Crystal Roberts set the fire by lighting a piece of paper and throwing it into the furniture collection.

Fire investigators said the fire grew and caused damage to Entergy power lines and an East Baton Rouge Parish trash container. The damages total in the amount of $1,500.

Roberts was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of simple arson.
