Woman from Louisiana arrested for vehicular homicide, feticide in fatal crash involving pregnant woman

KENNER, La. (WDSU) — Kenner police have arrested a woman in connection to the death of a pregnant woman and her unborn child.

Police say 45-year-old Shannon Alvarez was under the influence of controlled dangerous substances at the time of the crash.

The wreck killed 22-year-old Jade Lewis and her unborn child. Lewis was nine months pregnant.

Investigators believe road rage was a factor in the accident.

On Jan. 30, Kenner police investigated a two-car accident with a fatality. Police say Lewis’s car left the roadway and crashed into a utility pole.

Alvarez was injured and transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

She was arrested Friday at her home in Kenner and is facing charges of vehicular homicide, third-degree feticide and other moving violations.
