BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Emergency personnel responded to a deadly pedestrian-involved crash that happened Thursday evening.
According to LSP, Douglas Dupre, 40, was hit on I-12 eastbound at O’Neal Lane near the Amite River Bridge around 3 p.m. The East Baton Rouge Coroner’s office was called to the scene. Dupre suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to LSP.
The crash caused congestion to be backed up to the I-10/12 split. I-12 was closed but all lanes opened around 5:40 p.m. Thursday.
According to LSP, the investigation showed a 2016 Chevrolet heavy-duty pickup was traveling east in the center lane of I-12. LSP stated that, “at the same time, Dupre walked into the roadway, entered the path of the Chevrolet, and was struck in the lane of travel.”
A standard toxicology sample was obtained for analysis and the driver of the Chevrolet was not suspected of being impaired, according to LSP. The driver of the pickup was not injured.
