ASCENSION PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – A woman was injured in a shooting outside of an Ascension Parish gas station Tuesday evening, authorities say.

According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, a woman was struck by gunfire at a gas station on Highway 73, near I-10 and deputies say she somehow made her way to a hospital where she received medical care for her injuries.

By the time first responders arrived, neither the woman nor the shooter was at the scene.

Authorities say Rhesa Pointer and her daughter Raneisha Porter went to the gas station to fight a group of women. During the fight, Rhesa Pointer fired shots, striking the victim. Raneisha Porter turned herself in after a warrant was issued for her arrest. She was charged with attempted second-degree murder, principal to illegal use of weapons, two counts of principal to aggravated damage to property, simple battery, disturbing the peace, and child desertion.

On Monday, detectives arrested Rhesa Porter and charged her with attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, two counts of aggravated damage to property, simple battery, disturbing the peace, child desertion, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Authorities say more people could be arrested.
