FOLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — A young woman from Mobile is being hailed a hero after discovering a toddler wandering near downtown Foley late Sunday night.
It was the diaper that first caught McKenzie Ludvik’s eye Sunday night driving through Foley on her way home to Mobile.
“I stopped. As soon as I got out of the car he goes hey, hey.” A 3-year-old, alone, dressed only in a diaper, at midnight and just feet away from U.S. Highway 59. “I ran across the street and stopped him from crossing the street because there were cars passing.”
The parents did not want to appear on camera but say when they checked on him at 11:15 pm, he was sound asleep. Sometime after that though, the toddler opened a window and climbed to his freedom.
“They didn’t even know their child was missing probably. You’ve got to realize the relief once they found out what had happened, they might have some guilt. You’re just worried about your baby.”
According to police, the little boy was about a block from his home.
Ludvik is being hailed a hero, she says for doing the right thing. “I think that is flattering but again, I would have done what any sane, rational, carrying person would have done.”
