METAIRIE, La. (AP) — A Louisiana man accused of fatally shaking his girlfriend’s 5-month-old son has been arrested.
News outlets report 23-year-old Noe Martinez-Flores of Metairie was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder.
Jefferson Parish deputies responded to a home Sept. 18 on a report of an unresponsive infant. Doctors told the sheriff’s office the next day that the child had injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome. The baby died Saturday.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto says an autopsy Monday ruled the death a homicide. Capt. Jason Rivarde says detectives questioned people who were in the home with the baby. Investigators determined Martinez-Flores was responsible for the child’s injuries. The sheriff’s office doesn’t believe the infant’s mother was culpable.
It’s unclear whether Martinez-Flores had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
