BATON ROUGE, LA (LOCAL33) (FOX44) – Summer is coming to an end and that means many will be settling back into a workout routine.
YMCA Personal Trainer and Wellness Director Meredith Atterbery shared tips on how to ease back into a good fitness routine.
Atterbery said it’s best to start small.
“If you were working out in the past, and now you’re starting back into it. The thing you need to remember is you aren’t going to start where you left off.”
Atterbery said to start with a lower weight and easier cardio routine.
“Decrease that weight a little bit and give yourself time to get back into it. Same thing with cardiovascular training. If you’re running or biking you want to give yourself an easier intro and work your way back up to where you left off.”
The amount weight you’re lifting also is important to keep in mind.
“I would take it easy also with the amount of weight that you’re lifting to give your joints and muscles time to re-acclimate , and the number of days you workout. Your body will need time to recover and it may take a little bit of time to recover after some time off.”
