BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD)- A businessman inspired to help his community, Cleve Dunn, Jr. is now in a runoff for the Baton Rouge Metro Council District 6 race.
Dunn says his experience as an entrepreneur and service within the community makes him a perfect fit for Councilman.
“I classify myself as a Baton Rouge boy who has grown into a Baton Rouge man,” Dunn said. “I am passionate about empowering this community.”
Dunn brought BRproud to two locations in East Baton Rouge to put into perspective where his drive for the community comes from.
Sadenae Hair Studio
Dunn and his wife Stacy opened the hair salon in hopes to employee local cosmetologist and bring jobs to the area.
The salon holds a special place in the couple’s heart because not only does Stacey practice her passion but the business provided service and income to the neighborhood.
Dunn says they were one of the first to invest locally in the area.
If elected Dunn says he wants to focus on bringing a community center to the Melrose East neighborhood.
According to Dunn the area is facing a challenge when it comes to accessing essential needs.
“Back here there is a lot of access issues,” he said. “One of them is transpiration, which leads to healthcare which leads to social service issues. We need to keep this area in mind.”
During the flood of 2016 Dunn and a group of six men helped rescues residents out of their flooded homes. Since then Dunn realized their is a long way to go to into helping the drainage system.
“We need to go in and look at what we’ve done with the floor and drainage issue. Look at the best practices around the country and make sure we implement a program.”

“I think we need an interpreter voice on the Metro Council that can have small minority business in mind when we look at opportunities and just to grow and develop business in the area,” Dunn said.
The Metro Council District 6 runoff election will take place on December 5.
