BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – It’s official, Gary Chambers is running for the Louisiana U.S. Senate seat.
The seat is currently held by incumbent Republican Senator John Kennedy.
Chambers, the Baton Rouge native, recently ran for Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District seat, narrowly missing the runoff race against now Congressman Troy Carter.
In making his announcement, Chambers said it’s time for a change from a candidate that understands what challenges residents face.
“Every single day, Louisianans across the state work hard to lift their families up to make ends meet and to build a better future for their children, and every day they are met with roadblock after roadblock, especially this past year,” said Gary Chambers.
Chambers says his campaign issues include, passing economic aid for the people of Louisiana like the Build Back Better Act and guaranteeing the voting rights of all US Citizens through voting reform initiatives.
Kennedy has already announced his intentions to run for re-election and has already been endorsed by former President Donald Trump.
The Louisiana U.S. Senate race is scheduled for November 8 in 2022.
