Baton Rouge, LA (NBC 33/Fox 44) Members of a Zachary family are finally getting an answer to their prayers. Their husband and father, Keith Phillips, has new lungs.

We first introduced you to the Phillips family back in December. After a year long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis, Keith’s condition then was quickly declining as he waited for a double lung transplant. But the Phillips family never lost faith, knowing God would make a way.

Then, on Tuesday night, they got the call. Doctors had found a match. Keith and his wife Amy flew out Wednesday morning and that night Keith underwent the seven hour surgery to get his new lungs.

Amy says Keith is resting now and recovering in the ICU. She tells us doctors will slowly wean him off the ventilator, until he’s breathing on his own. But doctors say Keith will face a long hospital stay before he’ll be able to come home.

Amy has started a Facebook page, “Keith’s Transplant”, to keep friends and family updated on his progress.

As for expenses, the average double-lung transplant costs more than $1 million, and Phillips needs to raise at least $50,000 to help cover his costs. The National Foundation for Transplants Fund is accepting donations to help with Keith’s medical expenses. All you have to do is click here. You can also mail your donation to The NFT Transplant Fund at 5350 Poplar Avenue., Suite 850, Memphis, TN 38119. Be sure to write “in honor of Keith Phillips” in the memo.

Meanwhile, here at home, Cast Iron Ministries is working on a jambalaya fundraiser to help pay for all the additional costs, like flights to and from Cleveland, where Keith is being treated, and upgrades to the Phillips’ home to make it a safe place for Keith to breathe when he does come home. The Jambalaya Sale is happening Saturday, February 1st in the City of Zachary Parking lot, next to the Farmer’s Market. Tickets are $8. You can contact them on the Cast Iron Ministries FB Page. Jambalaya will be sold the day of the fundraiser, but extras will be limited, so be sure to purchase your ticket in advance.
