ZACHARY, La. (LOCAL 33/FOX 44) – Community concerns in the city of Zachary after a news conference about a teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student became contentious.

Some of the leaders of the city of Zachary are not seeing eye to eye about their community. The Mayor and Police Chief abruptly ended a news conference when one councilman expressed his truth about what he is calling the real Zachary.

“We will not let anything divide this city. We’re together. Always been together and we will get through this,” said Zachary Mayor David Amrhein.

Zachary Mayor David Amrhein talked unity in his city after a teacher is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student, but that unity was questioned.

Zachary City Councilman Lael Montgomery said, “Zachary ain’t the picture that they painting. That’s not Zachary.”

Councilman Lael Montgomery says the city is divided and there is a bigger problem. One issue at hand is hashtags the police department uses when they post arrests on facebook.

Another is the Principal of Northwestern Middle School sending Montgomery an email in reference to the teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student. He says she called him a disgrace.

Mayor Amrhein said, “To not come by and speak to us to me is just you wanting to do something else.”

As Montgomery tried to explain the need to fix the issues, the Mayor abruptly ended the news conference.
