Zachary High School

ZACHARY, La. (BRPROUD) – Do not be alarmed if you see a large law enforcement presence at three schools in the area.

Parents received this message from Zachary Community School District on Friday morning:

“Parents, This morning NMS and ZHS students and staff were “sheltered in place” while the Zachary Police Department conducted a routine search in conjunction with the Louisiana Department of Corrections. Thank you, ZCSD

The Zachary Police Department confirms that they are working with the Louisiana Department of Corrections and other members of law enforcement on a gun and drug search of Zachary High School, Zachary Middle School and Northwestern Middle School.

This type of search is done two or three times a year and the schools are not aware when they are taking place.

Drug dogs are being used in the search and as of now there is no word on whether any drugs or guns were seized on Friday morning.
