It has been a month since our deadly flooding destroyed homes, possessions and businesses.
The flood waters are long gone, but a new problem has taken its place.
With more water, comes more mosquitoes and an increased threat of the diseases they carry, but flood survivors in southern Louisiana are too busy putting their lives back together to spend time killing mosquitoes.
So TV personality Dr. Gadget teamed up with Dynatrap and came to the capital city to help.
They gave away 1,000 Dynatraps to people in need.
They retail at about $200 a piece.
Dr. Gadget said that the Dynatraps offer relief from mosquitoes for up to one full acre.
To prove it, he actually showed up a week early to test the product.
He said, "Today is a culmination of four days this week of setting up Dynatraps in neighborhoods to trap neighborhoods for mosquito abatement. We also trapped out the LSU baseball field, which i was just thrilled with because I'm a huge baseball fan".
Dr. Gadget set up shop at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship Church to hand out the Dynatraps.
People who came and got a trap told Local 33 that in times like these, this gift means a lot.
