Seven ways to celebrate your pup on Palentine’s Day, Feb. 13

BATON ROUGE, La. (BR Proud) — Forget Valentine’s Day. How about celebrating your pup with treats, snuggles and special toys on Palentine’s Day instead?

It’s already a thing – well, sort of. Palentine’s Day is historically meant to celebrate your best buddy (gender neutral) and always falls the day before Valentine’s Day, Feb. 13. It’s the same day as Galentine’s, but due to social distancing, you may be looking to stay within your pandemic bubble this holiday season.

Camp Bow Wow has come up with seven tips to help you plan the perfect date with your pup.

Homemade Treats

It’s always fun to cook or bake for your dear friends and family, so why not do the same for your pet? Customize the treats with your pet’s favorite food (all natural peanut butter is a favorite in my house!) and keep ingredients minimal for time and healthiness. Other ideas include carrots, sweet potato, pumpkin, banana, plain oats, baby food or rice. Search for recipes online like frozen treats, baked bones or even pet cupcakes.

Special Toys

Make a special toy for your pet out of an old t-shirt or socks stuffed with your homemade treats, newspaper or tennis balls.

Cuddle Time

Have a cuddle session with your pet. Put on a pet-themed movie and snuggle up on the floor or couch. Give your furry friend cuddles throughout the movie – a special evening with your complete and undivided attention.

Spa Day

Give your pet the full treatment at a local grooming/bathing salon. Many facilities offer self-bathing and great smelling shampoos and conditioners to make your dog clean, fresh relaxed and comfortable. You can always opt for a spa night in too!

Training Class

Training is a great way to bond and have fun with your pet. Check out local rewards-based trainers to see what class offerings they might have. Many training groups offer drop in classes or even special seminars that you can attend with your pet to enjoy special time together.

Pet-Friendly Business/Events

If you and your pet love to go out in public together, look for local pet-friendly businesses in the area that you can visit such as brew pups, retail stores and pet supply stores. Let your pet pick out their own toy or treat to purchase while there. Of course, the local park is always an option too – and easy on the pocketbook!

Pet Portraits or Stuffed Animals

There are several businesses available that will create custom pet portraits, caricatures or a stuffed animal to match your pet’s looks and characteristics. If nothing else, just make sure to snap a selfie with your pup to remember the special day.
