BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) — Catholic defended the Cave on Claycut against Rummel in the LHSAA State Basketball Playoffs, and won 61-58.
Bears sophomore Tate McCurry led all scorers with 20 points, fueled by a hot start of 10 points in the first quarter. Jamard Jones and Kendrick Joseph led the Raiders with 14 points each. The teams entered the locker room at halftime tied at 29 all.
Catholic started the second half off on a 16-2 run with a barrage of three pointers and runs at the rim.
Rummel responded in the fourth quarter with a full court press and chipped away at the lead. Raiders guard T.J. Duhe scored a clutch three pointer with under 30 seconds to make it a 2 point game.
After a quick foul, Catholic went 1/2 at the line and left the door open for Rummel. Duhe attempted another triple at the buzzer that bounced off the front of the rim.
