BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – You can now add Hall of Famer to Pete Richardson’s legacy.
The former Southern University football coach was selected for the Black College Football Hall of Fame class of 2023.
“This Class is another representation of the immense football talent that has played at historically black colleges and universities,” said BCFHOF Co-Founder and 2011 Inductee Doug Williams. “Several of these players were college All-Americans, high NFL draft picks, and Pro Bowlers.”
Before coming to coach Southern, Richardson was coach at Winston Salem State University where he won three CIAA conference championships.
Richardson was hired to coach Southern in 1993 and his impact was immediate. During his tenure at Southern, Richarson won five SWAC titles and four Black college football national championships.
Richardson finished with 134 wins and 62 losses as coach at Southern. In the Bayou Classic, Richardson finished with a 12-5 record.
