BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Southern faced off against the Lincoln University CA Oaklanders for their homecoming game at A.W. Mumford Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Jaguars picked up their third win of the season as they came away with a 45-18 win over the Oaklanders.

Southern started off the game with a house call as wide receiver Jailon Howard returned the opening kickoff for a 90-yard touchdown to put the Jaguars up 7-0 with 14:44 left in the first quarter.

The Jaguars offense continued to add to their lead as running back Gary Quarles Jr. ran it in for a nine-yard touchdown to give Southern the 14-0 lead with 7:51 left in the first quarter. The scoring continued as running back Kendric Rhymes punched it in from the two-yard line to extend the lead to 21.

The Jaguars offense continued with their fast start as quarterback Harold Blood connected with wide receiver George Qualls Jr. for an 11-yard touchdown to give the Jaguars a 28-0 lead with 1:41 remaining in the first quarter.

Lincoln University CA got on the board midway through the second quarter as running back Otis Weah scored on a seven-yard rushing touchdown to cut into Southern’s lead, 28-6.

The Oaklanders took advantage of an interception by Blood as quarterback TJ Goodwin found wide receiver Teriq Phillips for a 22-yard touchdown to put the score at 28-12 with 2:49 remaining in the second quarter.

The Jaguars outscored Lincoln University CA 17-6 in the second half as they came away with a 45-18 win over the Oaklanders and moved to 3-3 overall on the season.

Southern will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 21 when they take on Bethune Cookman at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Fl. at 3 p.m.
