METAIRIE, La. – Saints Quarterback Jameis Winston and rookie Wide Receiver Chris Olave are both questionable to play on Sunday.
Head Coach Dennis Allen announced that Andy Dalton will start under center against the Bengals. Both star wide receivers Jarvis Landry and Michael Thomas will not play.
Tight End Taysom Hill took snaps with the quarterbacks this week in practice and ran short passing routes with the running backs.
Last week against the Seattle Seahawks, Hill had the best game of his NFL career. Becoming just one of three players since 1950 with three or more rushing touchdowns, 100+ rush yards, and a passing touchdown in a single game. He joins LaDainian Tomlinson (2005) and Ronnie Brown (2008).
He also joins Saints quarterback legend Archie Manning as only the second player in franchise history to have one passing touchdown and at least three rushing touchdowns in the same game.
Impressively enough, Hill hasn’t seen reps at quarterback since last season.
“This training camp really didn’t take any reps at quarterback and you know, in the coach’s defense, like I was banged up,” said Hill.
“I had some ribs that I was dealing with through training camp and stuff. I think the last few weeks it’s been an added emphasis for me to make sure that I’m still staying sharp,” said Hill.
“This offseason the emphasis wasn’t on the quarterback spot. It was, you know, making sure that I could do the other stuff too,” said Hill. “I’ve been doing it my whole life, so I still feel comfortable doing it and I’ve got a nice little routine now the last few weeks where I feel comfortable doing all of that.”
The Saints ran through a lot of ball security drills this week in practice, which is great because New Orleans is last in the NFL in takeaway giveaways.
