METAIRIE, La. – There was a heightened energy at New Orleans Saints training camp, and quarterback Jameis Winston was part of it.
He’s progressed to participating in full team drills for the first time since his foot injury. The NFL veteran did a few things that he hasn’t done in camp yet, such as scramble out of the pocket and take off running.
This happened not once, but twice. On two separate plays. the first he ran for 10 yards and the second play he ran for 15 yards.
“You’d have to ask him, you know, exactly where he’s at, but I feel I thought today he looked really good,” said New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen.
“I do know that it was encouraging to me.”
“Right now he wants to be out there. You can see it. He shows it,” said New Orleans Saints wide receiver Marquez Callaway.
There’s a chance Winston might play in the Saints last preseason game against the Chargers on Friday.
Allen said he will make that call later in the week.
