METAIRIE, La. – Questions continue to circulate as to why quarterback Jameis Winston isn’t starting or even playing when he’s 100% healthy.

However, Head Coach Dennis Allen feels like Andy Dalton is the best option right now.

Dalton will make his 11th start come Sunday against the Falcons, and right now he is 3-7 for the Saints under center. But the story goes much deeper.

What is it like to be a backup waiting for the opportunity to showcase your talent?

“Regardless of the record, regardless of everything that goes on, you saw what Geno Smith’s quote the other day,” said Dalton. “It was talking about his hard times of being a backup. His hard times are a lot of people’s dreams. I’m just so thankful and blessed to be in this position for as long as I have and get to keep doing it.”

Although Dalton is QB1 in Week 15, that doesn’t necessarily mean that’s what the future holds.

“We’ll evaluate everything as we finish out these last four games,” said Allen. “Look, I think Andy and Danny’s done some good things. I think we’ve got to do a lot of other things around him to to to help him.”

“You can play really well and lose, and it feels like you’re not doing enough. At the end of the day, all that matters is winning,” said Dalton.

Dalton hasn’t thrown a single interception the last three games.
