BATON ROUGE, La. – Kristen Nuss and Taryn Kloth finished the final year of their collegiate beach volleyball careers with a perfect 36-0 mark, and the now former Tigers won the first ever AVCA Beach Pair of the Year. The two left LSU just short of reaching their ultimate goal: a championship, but they will begin their professional careers in 15 days at the AVPNext Gold Tour.
“Knowing who we’ve played, I am just honored, and I just think that goes to show that, whoever we step on the court with, we fully respect them. We know that there are some great athletes in this sport, and we just have a great time competing against the top level teams,” Kloth said.
Nuss and Kloth beat Kelley Kolinske and Emily Stockman, who currently rank 13th in the world according to FIVB, back in October, 2020, during the AVPNext at Hyden Beach. The pair learned in those matches how ready they were for the pro level.
“In those games against professionals, that even if it wasn’t going our way, we still looked at each other like ‘oh we got this,’ and just being able to fight through those battles and come out victorious was kind of just like ‘okay, we can do this at the next level,'” Nuss added.
The pair dominated both together and separately during their LSU careers. Nuss finished with 139 career victories, which is the most ever in the history of college beach volleyball, and Kloth won her final 50 matches.
The AVPNext Gold Tour will begin June 5th, down the road at the Coconut Beach Volleyball Complex in Kenner, LA.
