BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU announced its new number seven and on Twitter Friday: senior safety JaCoby Stevens.
The number has historically been for the team’s top playmaker. Tyrann Mathieu, Patrick Peterson and Leonard Fournette wore number 7 during their times at LSU. Stevens has joined the fold, and his 2019 season included several playmaking moments.
Last year, the Tennessee native totaled 92 tackles (including nine for a loss), five sacks, three interceptions and nine pass deflections.
LSU also announced the new number 18s for the 2020 season: running back Chris Curry and linebacker Damone Clark.
Curry stepped up for the Tigers during their 63-28 win over Oklahoma in the Peach Bowl. Clyde Edwards-Helaire was battling a hamstring injury, opening the door for the sophomore to be the lead back against the Sooners. The Florida native rushed 16 times for 90 yards (both team highs).
Clark had 50 tackles and 3.5 sacks last year for the Bayou Bengals, playing in all 15 games of the championship run.
Lloyd Cushenberry and K’Lavon Chaisson were the number 18s last season.
