BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Before LSU’s game against the University of Kentucky, the Tigers are focusing on just how good Kentucky is at playing small ball.

At one point this season, the Wildcats were ranked dead last in home runs and actually led the SEC in Bunting. Head coach Jay Johnson said he knew earlier this year the Wildcats would make it to the postseason.

“They’re just one of those teams that I’ve had a lot of experience against,” Johnson said.

He added, “They do really, really well. That’s not seen out here a whole lot but having an opportunity to play against it for three games is helpful. We’ll be surprised and we’ll be very, very prepared to deal with it come the weekend.”

The team agreed with Johnson.

LSU infielder/outfielder Gavin Dugas said, “We’re going to keep preparing the way we always do and just take care of the baseball.”

LSU first baseman Cade Beloso said, “That’s going to be a key to winning this series this weekend and go to Omaha and, you know, it’s something we’re not taking lightly. We’re going to have to play a clean game or clean games. Excuse me, plural. But, you know, we know what they’re going to try to do to us. And, you know, let’s try to do our best to defend it.”

LSU pitcher Ty Floyd said, “We always do great work all the time, so we’re always prepared, no matter who the runner is, no matter the situation.”

LSU will play Kentucky at 2 p.m. CT, Saturday, June 10.
