BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU hosted Samford Friday night to begin the Tiger Classic, and the Tigers’ hitting came from the bottom third of its lineup. Morgan Cummins and Taylor Tidwell highlighted LSU’s hitting with their first career home runs, one after the other.
“I mean yeah it’s cool. Her and I are pretty good friends. It was really cool for that to happen,” Cummins said.
“I thought it was awesome. I know how hard they’ve both worked to have that happen, and so the fact that they both had it in the same inning back-to-back was awesome. I’m so proud of them,” pitcher Ali Kilponen said.
Cummins and Tidwell were able to enjoy the moment, and as a whole, the bottom third produced six of LSU’s 10 hits against Samford.
“They did a good job. It was nice seeing Morgan, Tid swing that way. Ciara’s just continuing to battle for us, having some really great at bats so I was happy with that,” head coach Beth Torina said.
LSU beat Samford 4-0 and improves to 6-0. The Tigers will travel down I-10 for its next game to play the Ragin Cajuns on Saturday. First pitch is at 4 p.m.
