LSU QB Commit Draws Comparisons to JaMarcus Russell

Geaux Nation

Head coach Ed Orgeron landed a commitment from the top quarterback in the state of Louisiana on Tuesday, with the pledge from Ponchatoula’s TJ Finley.

The soon-to-be junior for the Green Wave measures in at six-foot-six, 230 pounds as his playing height/weight, and according to his head coach, he has all the tools to be compared to one of LSU’s all-time ‘great’ quarterbacks.

“I’ve seen JaMarcus Russell play…I’ve seen LSU play for 40 years,” said Ponchatoula head coach Hank Tierney. “That is the best comparison (physically) is JaMarcus [Russell].”

As for some of those tools?

“Big arm, really big arm,” said Tierney. “He’s not really fast, but he’s got quick feet. And, he’s got a really high football IQ.”
