LSU TE Arik Gilbert named 2020 high school athlete of the year

BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU tight end Arik Gilbert won the 2020 Gatorade High School Male Athlete of the Year award, becoming the first tight end in history to earn the honor.

During his senior season, Gilbert had 105 receptions for 1,860 yards and 15 touchdowns, leading Marietta High to the Class 7A state championship in Georgia.

According to 247Sports Composite, the 6’5″, 255-pound tight end was the fifth overall prospect in the nation and the number one tight end in both the Georgia and the country.

Gilbert will appear alongside UConn’s Paige Bueckers, the female athlete of the year award winner, on a special flip cover release for the September 2020 issue of Sports Illustrated.
