Pleasants Named SEC Newcomer of the Week

BATON ROUGE, La. – For the second time in three weeks, LSU softball freshman Taylor Pleasants has been named the Southeastern Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Pleasants hit .667 to lead LSU to a series win over Auburn in the SEC series finale. The Tigers’ starting shortstop totaled six hits, two doubles and one home run. Pleasants hit a grand slam in the sixth inning of game three to clinch the series and program’s 1,200th win.

The top newcomer in the league, Pleasants has hit .327 in 2021 with 47 RBI, 50 hits and 11 home runs. Her 47 RBI rank fifth in the league and .368 batting average in SEC games is 10th in the league.

Pleasants and the Tigers travel to Tuscaloosa for the 2021 SEC Tournament May 11-15. LSU’s tournament opens Wednesday against the winner of Auburn and South Carolina.
