Redemption Story: Amanda Sanchez’s Softball Journey to Olympics

TOKYO, JAPAN (BRPROUD) – Amanda Sanchez is used to being overlooked. Before all of the collegiate accolades, getting drafted 5th overall and making Team Mexico, she was hardly recruited out of high school in her home state of California.

“The only west coast school to offer me, like power five, was Washington, so no mater what I was going to leave my home state,” said Sanchez. “I just based my decision on feel and going to Missouri didn’t scare me.”

At Missouri, Sanchez was a hitting machine. She batted .347 her freshman year, .354 her sophomore year and racked up 98 RBI combined in her first two seasons. At the beginning of Sanchez’s junior year, she had Tommy John surgery.
