High school football will kick off this Thursday and Friday, with jamborees for local teams. “I know our guys are excited, because a lot goes into the build up to the season,” said University Lab School Head Coach, Chad Mahaffey.
University Lab will play Parkview Baptist on Friday night. “You really want the jamboree to kind of prepare you for that week 1, and so I think this will do that, you know, the big difference between the jamboree and the scrimmage is that we’ll be out there with full special teams, the coaches aren’t on the field, so you really get an idea of how those guys communicate with each other out there,” Mahaffey said.
Mckinley Head Coach, Robert Signator said his team is ready to go after a challenging off season. He said the school is full of enthusiasm leading up to game day each week. “High School football is Louisiana’s culture, Friday night football in Louisiana, you know it’s just a warm up for the Saturday with Southern and LSU,” Signator said.
Coach Signator thinks his team will surprise people, “I think we are going to be an interesting team. I think we are not going to be an easy win.”
Both coaches said Louisiana high school football is deep rooted in tradition. “It’s just something that’s been part of Louisiana for a long time, people love football and they love everything that comes with it,” Mahaffey said.
