AMITE, La. – The top team in 2A, No. 1 Many visited Amite to take on the ninth ranked Warriors for a quarterfinals showdown, and the home team took the lead out the gate.
John Walker threw a touchdown to Korrill Mearridy on the game’s first play from scrimmage, giving Amite an early 7-0 lead, but the Tigers dominant ground game took over on the ensuing drive.
Many running back Terrance Williams scored a rushing touchdown on a drive where the Tigers only attempted one pass, which fell as an incompletion. Many completed a two-point following the touchdown for their first lead of the game at 8-7.
The Tigers and Warriors scored in the second quarter, but two dead ball fouls after a touchdown, a blocking foul and an unsportsmanlike conduct, neutralized an Amite touchdown which would’ve tied the game at 21-all heading into halftime.
Instead, the Warriors were down 21-14 at the break, and Many pulled out a 34-30 win to advance to the semifinals.
