GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) — The Dutchtown Griffins dominated the East Ascension Spartans, shutting them out in the second half, capping off an impressive regular season with a 37-14 win.
The win gave the Griffins a share of the District 5-5A title with Walker and St. Amant.
The Griffins fell behind early when East Ascension quarterback Caden Gautreaux connected with Jackson Chiasson for a deep touchdown.
Dutchtown responded right back with a touchdown from Carter Hanberry. The Griffins took the lead in the first quarter after a bad snap on a punt forced a safety.
Then, in the second quarter, Dutchtown extended its 9-7 lead to 16-7 with a Gary Dukes touchdown run.
East Ascension didn’t go away, scoring again on a deep touchdown toss from Gautreaux to Brennon Thompson to make it a two-point game.
Just before the half, the Dutchtown defense started to take over, sparked by a pick-six from Hanberry to make it, 23-14, at the half.
Dutchtown dominated the second half, keeping East Ascension off the scoreboard the rest of the way while tacking on two additional touchdowns.
Dutchtown finishes the regular season 8-1, while East Ascension finishes the regular season 3-7.
