BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) — Southern Lab spoiled Dunham’s homecoming night after a dominating second half performance propelled the Kittens to a 35-23 win.
Starting quarterback Marlon Brown threw for three touchdowns and ran one in for Southern Lab. Brown hit wide receiver Denhim Hunt early in the fourth quarter for a 25-yard touchdown to put the game out of reach, 28-17.
“Those guys are connecting well. Denhim has really come along, he’s been our go-to guy,” said Southern Lab head coach, Darrell Asberry. “He can run, it’s hard to teach speed. I didn’t teach him the speed I can promise you that.”
The first quarter started a slug fest, with both teams scoring on their opening possession. The Kittens jumped out to a two score lead when Drew Bourgeois returned a kickoff for the Tigers to make it 21-17 in the second quarter.
Dunham looks to regroup in their first district game against Northeast High School next Friday. The Tigers now have two losses to their name, after only losing two games all of last year.
Southern Lab kicks off 1A District-9 play next week with a sub-500 Central Private team in Baker.
