NATCHITOCHES – Madison Prep brings home their first 3A Football State Championship after dominating Union Parish 50-0 in the final day of the LHSAA Prep Classic.
Chargers Head Coach Landry Williams said there was no doubt that his team was going to win there in Natchitoches. “I could see it in their eyes,” said Williams.
With this win, the Chargers have won seven straight after going through the gauntlet in the playoffs. MPA went on the road and knocked off No. 8 Donaldsonville, No. 1 Jennings and No. 4 Church Point to advance to state. But don’t call Madison Prep an underdog because they proved all the doubters wrong after shutting out the Farmers on the biggest stage.
MPA dominated on both sides of the ball keeping UPHS out of the endzone while their offense rolled with junior quaterback Zeon Chriss leading the way.
The three year starter brought home his own hardware winning the title-game MVP. Chriss finished with 323 total yards while completing 9 of 16 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 121 yards and 1 TD.
The Chargers dominated from the opening kickoff and scored on all but one first-half possession and never looked back despite the soggy conditions.
