BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — We’re at the halfway point of the high school football season with week five kicking off Thursday night.

For the Dunham School, they have one non-district game left on the schedule and it won’t be an easy one. It’s a non-district clash with 1-A powerhouse, Southern Lab. The Kittens are ranked third in the state and coming off a dominating win over Opelousas Catholic, 60-35.

This game has been an intriguing matchup over the past two seasons. In 2021, the Tigers won 26-20 in overtime. Then in 2022, Dunham walked away with a 28-14 victory over SLHS. Now in 2023, fourth-ranked Dunham (2-A) is looking for their fourth straight win after winning a nail-biter against Ascension Catholic, 29-28, in week four.

“They’re very disciplined and well coached this year,” said Dunham’s Head Coach Neil Weiner. “Coach (Darrell) Asberry does a fantastic job. I mean, he’s a college football coach that’s come back down to high school ranks. He’s coaching his own son. They’re very talented. They’re big and fast. When these seniors were freshmen, they won a state championship. And they remind me a lot of that team. We certainly have our work cut out for us. It’s fun to have a challenge like that. We’ve played them at two tight games the last two years.”
