BATON ROUGE – Central (5-1,1-0) will face their biggest test of the season this Friday night when No. 9 Catholic High (4-2,1-0) visits the Cat House. This game could have 4-5A district implications, but the biggest storyline starts at the top with Central’s new head coach, David Simoneaux. Coach Simoneaux will face his former team who has plenty of players he coached during his two seasons with the Bears. His first year at Catholic, he helped win a state championship in 2021 and finished with a 23-3 record.
“It’s hard to describe you know, but it’s certainly an emotional week for me just having been over there for two years you know, and all those kids, those were my guys for two years,” said Coach Simoneaux.
Central is coming off a 47-6 district win over Scotlandville. It’s the first time the Wildcats have beaten the Hornets at home since 2019. Friday night’s matchup against Catholic will be a measuring stick facing a blue blood program that has had a ton of success over the last decade.
Simoneaux said, “the maturation of this offense has been something, it’s been fun to watch. Jackson Firmin has really come into his own and established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in this area.”
